I may agree to add fedora and suse release, supposing it works, and even if it does not add anything because they are not supported.

But I do not agree to not replace the extraction from os-release by a call of it : it defines variables we do not need, and does not add anything better than we do. More, we do not know wich other variables may be added to this file in future. It is more safe to grab only what we need. See also : https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/os-release.html
