Sliding 'window'

After talking with some people, I think it would be really useful to have a "sliding window.'

Similar to a range slider, but the range stays fixed and you can slide that piece across the slider.

Hm, that would be neat. I'm in favor of this idea.

Has anything happened with this idea, as I would love to be able to do something similar? I use your excellent slider for three things on my prototype mapping site at http://mapping4ops.org/ShowMaps/M4OPS-index.html. What I would like to be able to do is set the lowest slider's two handles (ie date range), then fix them relative to each other (eg by clicking a checkbox) so that if I slide either of them they slide in unison. In effect it is a sliding 'window', which I understand is what this issue is about. I have already implemented it so that things appear and disappear on the maps depending on the date range, and being able to move say a 10 year window around would be easier and more effective visually than having to move each handle separately.
