[Suggestion] Add Android Auto Integration

Open ulilicht opened this issue 7 years ago • 4 comments

Hi there, great work, I really like the app!

Have you considered adding Android Auto integration so that it is possible to use the app in the car?

Iheart Radio, Stitcher and Tunein are already supporting Android Auto. It would be great to have support in an Open Source App as well!

It shouldn't be too difficult to add it, here is the docs: https://developer.android.com/training/auto/audio/index.html

I myself don't have a car with Android Auto integration, but I use my phone in a car mount with the Android Auto app. It works pretty well and removes all the distraction while driving.

Hi, even if we didn't consider it before we will consider it from now. Thanks for the suggestion! Basic functionality is indeed seems to be simple to implement and there is an easy way to test it.

I made basic implementation of Android Auto support in my fork d09dc9aa4a8ecd269ba480e8299ff3143411dbe0, it shows favorite and stared stations, their icons and plays the selected station. What's left:

  • Show stations from Top/Local and other lists if necessary (involves downloading them and their icons)
  • Support voice commands
  • Disable alarms and other possible distraction as stated in documentation
  • Show album art?
  • If we want to officially support Android Auto we will need to go through Google's verification process so the application will need to satisfy Google Auto requirements like stability and many other small things.

These are all the duplicates about Android Auto feature. It may be worth closing the duplicates and keeping a single one open.
