[Feature request] Rename/Alias/Save trackers
It would be great if we could rename/alias and save trackers
To add a (hopefully) more described set of use cases, that help explain the value of this feature request (to me at least - it would be good if others could confirm if these use cases are ones they would find helpful)
Tracking devices in use:
- I use android tracker on a de-googled android. As such, I do not inherit the Google Play Services built in tracker finder.
- I use Apple airpods on my Android
- My family has tile devices that we use from a standalone device to help find common items (keys, bags etc)
- My work uses airtags to track commonly lost shared items, like company car keys etc.
What this means, is that on any given day, I have between 0 and 4 known trackers travelling with me. These are almost constantly alerting me (false positives), which reduces the value of the application to me, as I am training myself to ignore the alerts from the application.
If I were able to add an alias to, and "mark as trusted" these trackers, it would make airguard a more usable application.
I still want to see them in tracker reports, so I feel that trackers that are marked as known should still be visible, but could have alerts for these devices toggled to "off" that would be super helpful.
I like this idea very much and I'd like to extend the use cases @snrkl mentioned.
Airguard does almost everything we need to manage our own Tiles / Airtags / whatever kind of tracking devices we own. If we could name certain devices and use the locating feature on them at any time, Airguard would become a one-stop-shop to handle all kinds of trackers without the need for different vendor apps, which might track their users in all kinds of ways.
And it would work on de-googled phones as well :-)
Considering possible implementations, I think this could be two separate features:
- Add the possibility to create an alias name for each tracker that has been found and show this name in the UI instead of generic names like "AirTag 123" or "Tile 45".
- Add the possibility to put trackers into a group "my devices". This should be a separate option on the risk assessment screen, which would lead to a filtered view of the devices screen.
- We could think about extending this to arbitrarily named groups, but I don't see many use cases for this (maybe other do?).
This would extend the use of Airguard from a self-protection app to an everyday tool, which might also be a good thing for people in difficult personal situations ("Why do you have Airguard on your phone?" - "That's a great app! Look how it helps me find my key more easily than the original vendor app!").
Hello,
sorry for the delay answer. It is possible to rename trackers within AirGuard. In the list of the "Tracker detected" you can rename any tracker by swiping from right to left to reveal an edit button. Alternatively you can rename it by clicking on the name in the Trackers detail page.
If you do not want to be notified about a tracker you can use the ignore button. If a device is set as ignored you will not receive any new notifications about them. They will still appear in the manual scan, but now sorted under the safe trackers category. You will notice that ignoring a tracker is not possible for every type of tracker (e.g. it is possible for tile, but not for apple airtags). This is because some trackers like the apple airtags rotate their mac address or other identifier regularly. This makes it impossible for an app like AirGuard to permanently ignore a certain tracker.
