This will allow the display of links based on those ids to external websites. Goodreads, Amazon, Worldcat.org, etc

This will be a great improvment! I will consider this for myself too and probably avoid using an extra column for links: https://github.com/seblucas/cops/issues/463

There is the url identifier type in this code, but I didn't test it at all.
