It looks like the binary characters are dropped by Javascript. Whereas LUA puts() seems to stop printing a string when it encounters a nul.

Regardless of how the list state is determined, there should be a way to record it, and for PM to take note of it in displays etc.
Such tools would presumably need additional authentication as they can change the archive.
