Device Compatibility Report: Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N (2020)

The 2020 Acer Spin 5 is what I wait for years to replace my recent Surface Pros/Books. It's hard to find a Windows 2-in-1 laptop with the specs together: 3:2 Hi-res Screen, 360-degree hinge, small Wacom AES stylus inside the unit. When this laptop becomes compatible with Brunch/Chrome OS, it is more fun and powerful. -- Just like an real Chromebook. (Thank you again sebanc, It's amazing!) So I write a full testing report here for Brunch framework and some setup tips.

Tested with RAMMUS image.

  • Booting: brunch r86 not working (Intel 10th gen CPU issue), brunch-next with kernel 5.4 works very well.
  • Install on internal SSD: Need to change to AHCI mode in BIOS hidden setting (Use Ctrl-S in BIOS 'MAIN' tab to show)
  • Touchpad/Touch screeen/Stylus: Not working by default. Need to add "i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" to kernel parameters in Grub config, it fixes everything.
  • Touchpad: Multitouch working, lower-righ mouse right click not working (Chrome OS default behavior, use two-finger click instead)
  • Touch Screen: Multitouch working. No problem with zoom/pan operation.
  • Stylus: Tested with the buil-in small WACOM AES stylus and a 1st gen. WACOM BAMBOO Feel stylus. Both works fine. Pen presure works very well in each drawing apps, response speed is quite good. BAMBOO Feel has more detail in light pressure than the build-in stylus, but the pen tip of the build-in stylus feels more sturdy.
  • Screen Auto-rotation: Working
  • Hinge rotate detection: auto-change laptop/tablet mode working.
  • Powerbutton: Press to suspend working, Hold for power-menu working
  • Cover close detection: working.
  • Powrer button / Close Cover and keep playing music: Working.
  • Volumn/Brightness adjustment: Working.
  • Wi-fi: Working (5G signal strength seems not as good as Surface Book running Chrome OS)
  • Bluetooth: Working
  • USB ports: Working
  • Thunderbolt ports: Not tested yet.
  • Microphone: Working
  • Headphone jack sound switching: Not tested yet.
  • Cameras: Working
  • Fingerprint sensor: Not sure if Chrome OS supports this.
  • Battery: CPU frequency seems a little high, and feels hotter than running Windows 10. Battery life may not perform very well.
  • Android APPs & Lunux Beta: 99% working.

Hi, I was trying to make my Acer Spin 3 SP313-51N laptop with an 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz processor work with the hinge rotate detection, screen auto-rotation and the internal mic.

What I've tried so far was the latest stable brunch version, which is Brunch r121 stable 20240224, with the images voxel and shyvana, and then the unstable version Brunch r119 unstable 20231230 with just the image shyvana.

The first brunch version I've used worked with the tablet mode only when using ctrl + shift + alt + t, but not upon folding the laptop. The second brunch version wouldn't even boot when chosen.

I found out that Kernel 5.4 doesn't seem to work and I get stuck on loading screen, it stuns me that it works for you normally.

I can report the following

Camara working Sound working Touchpad working Touchscreen working Stylus working Bluetooth working Wireless headset mic working Android apps working

Internal or wired headset Mic not working Hinge rotate detection: auto-change laptop/tablet mode not working Auto rotation not working

I would like to ask you, since you have a similar model, if you're currently encountering any of my issues.
