Reduce dependencies and build time

This could be a forever issue, but I really do mean to keep it short. This is meant to do a low-hanging fruit pass, if there are dependencies that we don't need, or features that are enabled that don't need to be, that would improve compile times.

One thing that is annoying is the usage of the feature with ?/ because they will pull in the lockfile deps like quinn

That will only affect the lockfile, though. It doesn't affect downloading or compiling.

Also, that's a bug in cargo.
