This was updated in #2130 and then reverted in #2172. Not sure if the reasons for reverting have been addressed?

Hmm, unfortunately I don't see an explanation for the revert, so its hard to know.

Setting to draft: this requires an MSRV of 1.64 (and current MSRV in 1.63.0).
