Can not access window one

Open HWgeek opened this issue 13 years ago • 36 comments

Read through all the notes. Still can not get to 1,1 on a 3x3 matrix.
Details: OS X 10.7.2 (upgraded from 10.6.8) Mission control panel mission control: F4 Application windows: F5 Show Desktop: F11 Show Dashboard: F12

In keyboard under mission control, I disabled move left and right (was Ctrl arrow left/right) and Switch to desktop one is Apple 1 not ctrl 1. I tried enabling and disabling desktop 1 (apple 1) no change.

If I am at 1,2 and move left, nothing happens. If I am at 2,1 and move up, pause, and then the screen slides, but it shows 2,1, however the icon in the top bar changes to "1". A subsequent move right ends up at 2,2.

Ok, very sorry to hear its not working. I just tried changing my assigned key from crtl-1 to apple-1, but either way it works for me. So I'm puzzled as to the problem.

Technically, we are sending ctrl-1 to the system, so leaving the assignment to be ctrl-1 would make sense, but as I said, I have found that it normally works whichever way you have it set. Does it make any difference to set it to ctrl-1?

sdsykes avatar Dec 06 '11 14:12 sdsykes

Thanks for your quick response!

Small error in my original post. In keyboard under mission control the "Switch to Desktop 1" is Option 1 not Apple 1. I did just now select restore defaults and its back to ctrl-1, however simply using the change-space assigned keys (in my case shift ctrl ) still tries to go to 1,1 but long pause and fails.

I can press Ctrl 1 and get to desktop one, but that does defeat the ease of flipping through the grid arrangement.

I am assuming you are running 10.7.2 ?? just in case there is some difference between minor rev's.

Hi, so I have a test build of Change Space running on my mac (as of yesterday) that completely circumvents the space 1 issue. It's faster and generally improved.

It'll take me a couple of weeks yet to get it packaged and ready, but I'm confident it'll solve your issue.

If you wish, I'll send you a version to play with, if you have time to beta test it.

sdsykes avatar Dec 12 '11 21:12 sdsykes

Sure can certainly beta test it , that would be fun! I found I could key in Ctrl 1 (as defined by keyboard --> mission control) but when moving around the "grid" just can't get to 1,1. I was going to suggest debug, but sounds like you found another way of doing it.

HWgeek avatar Dec 14 '11 02:12 HWgeek

I also have this problem. Any chance I can beta test it for you as well?

marekolszewski avatar Dec 18 '11 07:12 marekolszewski

@marekolszewski Sure, message me with your email address.

It turns out that having the dashboard set to occupy a space causes problems. I will fix this in the new version.

HWgeek could that have been the issue?

sdsykes avatar Dec 19 '11 07:12 sdsykes

Honestly don't know, as I didn't set Dashboard, just went with the default and actually hate that it was in a space.

just turned it off , sometimes I miss the obvious. heh.

And ChangeSpaceBeta works great! In effort of completeness, tried ChangeSpace and it still failed the same way as originally described.

... I'd be rather interested in a copy of this beta test version as well, if possible. Can't get switching to desktop 1,1 to work at all with the latest stable here either.... And I think this is the main thing stopping me from permanently upgrading from Snow Leopard!

Kate6 avatar Dec 22 '11 08:12 Kate6

Hello Kate6, yes you can, but there are a couple of things I'd like to fix first ideally.

I have heard back from my other two excellent beta testers that it works, but not when you have dashboard set as a space.

And there are a couple of other things. But anyway, expect a new beta in a few days.

Please send me a message with your email address.

sdsykes avatar Dec 22 '11 09:12 sdsykes

I have no desire to have Dashboard as a space. Ideally I'd like to imitate the behavior of Spaces and Dashboard in Snow Leopard as closely as possible! :)

Are the "desktop 1,1" changes checked into your repo? Can I clone them out and build myself?

Kate6 avatar Dec 22 '11 09:12 Kate6

Kate6, I experience this issue too. But it works sometimes. The behavior is random! If I move down (2,1) and then up (1,1) very quickly it doesn't return to (1,1). If I move slowly it sometimes returns. But sometimes I have to go up, up, up, a couple of times to return to (1,1). The same happens if I move in other directions.

Hope this can get fixed soon! Thanks, guys! Kudos to you!

Hi, I would also like the Beta. Great work on this. It's a life saver!!!

marshmallowcreme avatar Jan 07 '12 19:01 marshmallowcreme

And btw, why is the default Mission Control desktop switching so slow? Feels like they tried to implement easing, but it's noticeably slower. Wish I could turn that off. Anyway, Change Space is MUCH faster. So happy I found this. :)

marshmallowcreme avatar Jan 07 '12 20:01 marshmallowcreme

@marshmallowcreme Current status is I've basically re-written the app in a better way. I hope to have a new beta out within a week or so.

sdsykes avatar Jan 08 '12 09:01 sdsykes

Great! Glad to hear it. I have already plugged your app on Twitter. :)

First things first... THANKS... I love most of Lion new features, but this one I was really missing...

same here with Space 1, I cannot reach it with Ctrl-Shift-arrow, though yes with Ctrl 1 (default mission control)... I do not have Dashboard as a space...

if you want to include me in the beta, will be happy to help...

jvismara avatar Jan 13 '12 03:01 jvismara

Ok sure. Still a few things to do... hoping for next week for a beta release.

sdsykes avatar Jan 13 '12 09:01 sdsykes

Thanks Stephen, one more thing, when I reboot, it does not come up by itself... []s

You did add it to your startup items?

sdsykes avatar Jan 15 '12 19:01 sdsykes

oppsss... not used to do it manually... I will, thanks,

If you need more beta testers I'd be more than happy to give the beta version a spin.

Thanks a lot for creating Change Space!

mikkelricky avatar Jan 25 '12 16:01 mikkelricky

Thanks. Things always take longer that you expect, but I expect to have something to announce re the beta next weekend.

first report:

the first/installation screen says that I that I need 6 desktops for my configuration. below, in red, it says that I do have 0 desktops. I do have 6 desktops. closing and re-opening gives me the correct information.

I installed it. It sat at the "Validating Packages" screen for a very long time. Ordinarily, I would have clicked cancel and assumed something was wrong, but I happened to get up while it was installing.

When I launch it, it complains about a key combination already in use but doesn't clarify what key combination to check for.

Installation of ReSpaceApp works like a charm, but when running the app I get the "That key combination is already in use" message and after hanging a while ("spinning beach ball") the app closes (or crashes).

mikkelricky avatar Feb 06 '12 22:02 mikkelricky

Thanks for this feedback. I will make it so that the default keys (ctrl-cmd-arrows) are not enforced. That's a bug. I will also check that it can get the desktop count on startup.

Thanks!

sdsykes avatar Feb 07 '12 04:02 sdsykes

Oops, I meant to say the default setup is ctrl-shift-arrows. Anyway, I will fix the conflict.

sdsykes avatar Feb 07 '12 09:02 sdsykes

Version 0.9.2 should fix this conflict with the keys.

@marshmallowcreme I am puzzled by the long delay with validating packages, I haven't seen that before. Please try 0.9.2.

sdsykes avatar Feb 08 '12 17:02 sdsykes

report on Version 0.9.2 --> everything is running clean and dandy here...

jvismara avatar Feb 08 '12 18:02 jvismara

Version 0.9.2 is really great. Thank you very much for creating ReSpaceApp!

Is is possible to make the transition animations even faster? Maybe disable them completely?

mikkelricky avatar Feb 08 '12 23:02 mikkelricky

Mikkel, I may be able to disabled them completely. The transition speed is currently bounded by how fast OSX will draw the next desktop to show. But I will see what can be done, there must be a way...

sdsykes avatar Feb 09 '12 07:02 sdsykes

No installation issues. Everything is perfect! Lightning fast switching between spaces. Like Mikkel points out, it would be great to be able to completely disable the transitions - then again - i really like the cube thing :-) Great work!

mortenpless avatar Feb 10 '12 17:02 mortenpless

Disabling transitions is coming in the next beta :)
