Save isn't re-sourcing the functions.R file

Open ghost opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

it looks like a previous version of Bert had a button in Excel that would force a reload of the functions.R file. But the current version is supposed to do that when I click Save. Unfortunately it isn't working that way. I have to close open Excel to get it to access the new functions.

Any ideas what I could be missing?

Not sure, but I have heard similar things before. Are you seeing any error messages in the console, or is it just not doing anything?

I would guess that it's due to either machine configuration or security. We set up the directory for BERT files in your home directory -- is that in a privileged location, or locked down, or on a network drive? I can probably figure it out but it will help if I can reproduce it.

As a workaround, there's an older function which will reload that you can call from the BERT console:

BERT$ReloadStartup()

I allowed the installer to default install BERT (and embedded R) to C:\Users<>\AppData\Roaming\BERT I'm pretty sure that folder is managed by our network IT somehow. It was definitely a hidden folder. I set it to not be read only but its still not saving. I'll try installing to a different folder. The BERT$Reload does work though... so not sure why Save wouldn't if Save is just calling that function. I'm also having trouble with the add-in not loading when I open Excel, there is some kind of hangup and then excel disables the add-in. Excel 2013.

re "Save is just calling that function" - it is not - BERT is actively scanning for changes - if you edit the file some other way you should see it get reloaded.
