Console input is terrible slow

I have a pretty fast laptop with I7. However entering text in the direct windows on the right side is extremely slow. Entering 10 characters takes 2 seconds. Any idea why? On a simple surface tablet it is much faster. Thanks Karsten

Is it chewing up a lot of processor? It might be related to your windows update issue, although I'm just speculating.

It does of course, up to 30 % of an i7 for just entering data.... amazing, because nothing is calculated before pressing return. By the way, the more text is on the right pane the slower it gets. After clearing the shell performance is absolutely ok.

coming back to my problem, now I have a completely new computer (I7, 32GB Ram). Still console is terrible slow. See also: https://github.com/sdllc/Basic-Excel-R-Toolkit/issues/147

On my surface (m3 4GB) it is 10 times faster….

What is wrong?

Hi Duncan,

interesting experience: it seems to be related to the grafik board. Without a 2nd screen connected it is ok, with the second one it is extremely slow.

Try right clicking in the console and choose "Clear Console" or equivalent keyboard shortcut Alt+F8 I had the same problem and this helped a lot. Still a slight lag but much better than before.
