When you specify `--type plug` it connects directly via TCP, when you don't it uses UDP to discover the type.

By invalid commands does it mean a command that is not supported that would normally raise `UNKNOWN_METHOD_ERROR or does it mean a badly formed message?

typing is now sorted, pydantic question is unresolved but closing for now.

I’ll look into this. Where are you based and do you know what firmware version you are running?

This should now be fixed in the master branch with https://github.com/tchellomello/python-ring-doorbell/pull/378. Will hopefully get round to doing a release over the next few days.
