Are you using micro.blog with Drummer?

Open scripting opened this issue 4 years ago • 10 comments

Can you share a link to a Drummer-authored micro.blog?

Here's a link to Manton's howto page.

Here's a link to the change note (opens in Drummer).

I followed Manton's video and it worked straight away. The most recent 3 posts at https://micro.baty.blog were published via an outline in Drummer.

The icing on the cake would be if inlineImage could be supported and included in the posts. Manton said "seems doable" so hopefully that will happen.

This is cool because I'm now managing two blogs from right within Drummer.

Manton did the right thing by using microblog.opml instead of blog.opml.

This means you can keep two blogs open in the same Drummer, as you are doing @jackbaty.

Very good stuff, all around.

@jackbaty I'm going to take a look at images this week. That was definitely an oversight in my first pass at supporting Drummer. Thanks!

Manton's video was perfect, and in short order I had a microblog.opml headline for posting to my Micro.blog account. Currently, the top four posts on https://smol.zuiker.com are posts written in Drummer.

Thank you!

I do have one question about Manton's video - he suggested the Markdown character for a quote would work because Micro.blog would interpret it. Does Old School interpret Markdown in the same way and as consistently? I have tested in my blog.opml but without luck in seeing a blockquote. I will search the Docs for Markdown instructions!

And a question for others: Would an additional tab, with Links and About, make sense to bring Micro.blog contents together with my other content?

Thanks to Manton for integrating Drummer with Micro.blog so quickly. I think Manton is also exploring options to see if it may be possible to bring in daily summaries instead of individual posts in real-time. Since each line in Drummer creates a new "micro-post" in Micro.blog, I am thus more likely to write in paragraphs than lines on Drummer.

@pratik-mhatre The more I think about this, the more it seems like something for a Micro.blog custom theme to solve. Micro.blog would always create separate posts, but an Old School-inspired theme could show them together per day, instead of split out with timestamps like how most Micro.blog themes usually work.

manton avatar Oct 19 '21 16:10 manton

@manton That would work too. I would even be fine if it imports it once a day. Also, if the theme shows them by day, it can display it chronologically within that day instead of reverse-chronological like how blog usually does.

Well look at that https://micro.baty.blog/2021/10/19/image-test-m.html (posted via Drummer outline with an inlineImage attribute)

Images work now, too. So cool, thanks @manton! I've only tried inlineImage and not image but this is how I'd use it most, so this is awesome.

I have started posting to Micro.blog through Drummer now. Even I use a separate opml for microblog and my Old School blog. The way the things are set up, I can use Drummer to publish at all the places now. Yay!

As I mentioned in my original post, I liked the way @manton has implemented the integration. This way, Micro.blog sits parallel to Old School, with Drummer being the trigger. Brilliant!

Noting for Drummer and Micro.blog users that the Micro.blog help item for JavaScript include with Sidebar.js could allow me/us to add a fourth tab to the Old School blog to display a Micro.blog feed similar to how Links pulls in Radio3 feed for a user.

I believe currently adding a fourth tab would require me to host the template on my own but it would be great to have a Micro.blog tab built in as an option.

@pratik-mhatre and I are discussing this in Micro.blog as we explore ways to put both Drummer and Micro.blog in one place.
