I posted a podcast to the change notes outline just now.

If you have any questions during the quiet period please post them here.

Still diggin! šŸ˜€

I have experienced a Drummer behavior I'd like to post, but not sure if you want it as a new issue or as a reply here. Please advise.

I'll post my issue here but can move if it should be on its own.

I experienced a minor behavior in which the browser tab changes from Drummer to Scripting News and when I hit the back button it goes again to Scripting News. The console reports a websockets error. All is working fine in a new browser tab.

  • Drummer was open in a Safari tab, my blogs.opml the top outline.
  • I moved over to Acorn to edit a photo, then uploaded it via Transmit SFTP.
  • I went back to Safari, but the tab moved from Drummer to Scripting News on its own.
  • I hit the back button, saw Drummer, and then it went back to Scripting News.
  • I recorded a screencast (can share if helpful), opened the console, and saw a websockets report.
  • I closed the tab, and reopened Drummer in a new tab and everything is working fine.

[I believe I saw this behavior early in my use of Drummer.] scratching this, as now I can't be certain about this.

Did you open another copy of drummer in another tab?

scripting avatar Oct 10 '21 00:10 scripting

Just looked at my screencast video and only tab with Drummer is open, but I can't be sure when this happened if I had momentarily had a second instance open.

Drummer is working just fine for me now.

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 01:10 mistersugar

Trust me, you did.

scripting avatar Oct 10 '21 01:10 scripting

I'm reading over the new docs and they look great. I like the thin left menu.

Only the DocServer link, which opens a new browser tab, is confusing. But maybe you're still working on that?

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 01:10 mistersugar

About Drummer and Blogging in Drummer don't have a link to Drummer. Should they? Could these docs have a consistent button or link to Drummer in case someone lands on one of these and wants to get started?

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 01:10 mistersugar

A couple of typos in the Docs:

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 02:10 mistersugar

@mistersugar --

  1. I should put more links to Drummer in the docs. Good point. The first use of the word Drummer in the About doc now points to drummer.scripting.com. Same with the blogging doc. If you spot any other places where it should be linked, please speak up. This is super important stuff.

  2. The cowboy icon at the top of the navlinks section points to Drummer, but that's not obvious. A small bit of help, I added a title to the icon, so when you hover over it with the mouse it shows you where it goes.

  3. DocServer is problematic. It's a whole other website, but I felt a link to it belonged in the docs. At this time I don't want to try to get it in the "fold" with the rest of them. Let there be a little inconsistency for now. Please bring it up in a week or two, if you remember.

  4. Re the "typos" where are they?

  5. I know it's confusing that when you open a second instance of Drummer (web) it redirects the previous instance, in the background, to scripting.com. At the time, I didn't have any other obvious choice of where to redirect to, and the browser won't let me close the tab (that would be the obvious choice). After your report, I gave it some thought and decided a better place to redirect to is the About page. I thought about creating a special page just for this purpose but couldn't figure out how to explain it to someone who will probably have no clue they did what they did. It does this to protect you from having two versions of outlines conflicting with each other. There are other ways to deal with it, I've since learned, but at this stage can't do anything more complicated that what I've done here.

  6. I'm going to go ahead and make it public today. Yes there are still more things to do, but who cares. There always will be more things to do!

I linked those two typos directly to the paragraph links. Use the GitHub issues page to see links. (I’m at soccer field at the moment.).

Something to watch out for, docs pages load with a big delay between the display of the navlinks section and the body.

I've been seeing that happen. It's happening when it loads the glossary. If others are seeing it, I'd like to know.

Here's a screen shot of the new Docs menu.

The Questions item links to one of the threads here.

I'm going to change the name of this repo and make it public, soon.

I'm still debating with myself whether it's okay to use GitHub for support, but for now it's the only choice. Others include Discord (which I am not familiar with but has become a standard) and Slack (which I don't really like). We have to have a place for people to ask questions, so for now this is it.

Congratulations! And thank you for your perseverance.

FYI the Change Notes outline in web Drummer v2.0.9 (Safari and Firefox) shows with World icon while Change Notes in E/D v2.0.9 shows with the lightning bolt icon.

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 19:10 mistersugar

Anton I need steps to reproduce.

This screen shot is from web Drummer here.

scripting avatar Oct 10 '21 22:10 scripting

Anton I need steps to reproduce.

It's back to a bolt icon in Safari and Firefox. I noticed the new note "The page is flipped" so working as expected. I'll watch for further changes.

mistersugar avatar Oct 10 '21 23:10 mistersugar

I have an idea what might be causing it.

scripting avatar Oct 11 '21 01:10 scripting

@mistersugar -- steps to reproduce..

  1. Click this link.

  2. When it opens in Drummer it has the world icon instead of the lightning bolt.

  3. Refresh the page and it changes to the lightning bolt.
