Game crashes intermittently with strange audio buzzing
I'm playing open Freespace port with mediaVPs on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22 and keep crashing in game. It will happen 5 or 10 minutes into the game. The game will freeze, then I'll get random buzzing noises till the game closes to the desktop.
Any ideas to help would be great.
This is a strange issue and I'm not sure what could be going on. I have a few suggestions on how to start narrowing it down:
- Does this occur on a debug build? If so, play the debug build until it crashes, then upload the debug log.
- Does this only happen on FSPort or on other mods too? Does it happen while running FS2 with no mods?
- Are there any indications in Linux what might be related to the crash, such as maxing out memory or CPU?
- Are all of your device drivers up to date?
The random buzzing sound reminds me of a total system lockup where the input queue is being overloaded, but that's rare.
Hi Goober,
I tried playing the mod in debug mode and it crashed. here is the info:
Warning: Trail bitmap TrailTreb1Pur could not be loaded. Trail will not be loaded. File:weapons.cpp Line: 4411
I was not able to locate the log. Where is it normally located?
This is not the same issue I was having when loading the game normally and I've not experienced the reported issue on any other mods.
All drivers are up to date, however I'm not sure if there's an issue with overloading the system. The PC is running an old I7 3770k with 12gb ram, so I should be ok.
I could uninstall the mod and reinstall to see if this helps?
Warning: Trail bitmap TrailTreb1Pur could not be loaded. Trail will not be loaded.
That should be non-fatal. It should be possible to continue past that warning until the game has a more severe crash or error.
I was not able to locate the log. Where is it normally located?
If you are running Knossos, you should be able to go to the Debug tab and view or upload the log. Otherwise, you can find it by going to your home directory and looking for HardLightProductions\FreeSpaceOpen\data. The file name is fs2_open.log.
I don't think uninstalling and reinstalling the mod would make a difference, but it can't hurt to try.
