I opened a [bug](https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1515960) with RedHat also and they pointed me to a new testing version that includes the above mentioned patch and **does** fix my problem.

This is most likely a PHP configuration thing. What do the logs/errors say when you try and run Smarty? A white screen is usually a PHP error of some sort.

Any updates on this @mySmarty?

It's hard to troubleshoot the issue without some more info. Are you able to get us some logs from the time the error occurs?
