Battery powered option

Hi, first congratulations on this very neat projet, I have been following it for quite some time and will soon attempt to build one for myself. There is just one feature missing in the current design that would make it the ultimate killer for me, quite obvious IMO but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so far : a battery shield option.

I guess it could be as "simple" as adding traces for some kind of PMIC and a li-po connector on the main board, and then having a backplate variant that accommodates the battery itself. The ESP32 has plenty of wireless capabilities, it could charge through the USB-C connector, and be suitable for a much wider range of uses once it's untethered from the computer.

I am willing to contribute, but I just started digging into kicad so I may be a bit over my head here. Any help or clues will be appreciated. I have started looking for suitable ICs, found MCP73871, or maybe TP4065 that is already implemented here.
