Do I have to use a WiFi adapter?

I was wondering if I need to go out and buy a WiFi adapter when I could just modify the WiFi on the Pi itself? Point me in the right direction.

Hi WiFi adapter on Pi doesn't support monitor mode, you have to buy an additional adapter to sniff the probe request. I have tested it with TP-LINK TL-WN727N Ver 4 and its working...
