No longer detected after 5seconds of searching file [Enhancement] but I d'ont know if it's a bug

Open whoamitty opened this issue 8 months ago • 7 comments

What problem is solved by the new feature when I take too long (5 seconds) to choose a file to share from my phone (android) my computer ends up not detecting the phone the phone also no longer detects And finally I can no longer transfer the file, text, image [...] that I wanted to transfer

Describe the feature I have two ideas for solutions

  1. prevent the application from continuing to run in the background until it has been closed (I don't know how to do this, just an idea)

  2. make the user choose the file before choosing the destination device to transfer the file to, and bingo no more problems, pairdrop doesn't have to remain active.

I prefer the first proposal, because I wouldn't have to search for my devices every time I send a file.

Drafts Screenshots of Draw.io graph or drawn sketch.

Additional context Add any other context here. After too time searching (5 seconds) my page on pc become like never found device Image

same on mobile after choosen file (more than 5seconds) Image

then mobile connect Image

Me searching a file Screenshot_20250410_000455_Files.jpg

But it's maybe a bug

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to https://pairdrop.net/ on browser desktop (firefox for me)
and open app on mobile (downloaded from playstore ) (be over same network)
  2. On mobile click on the device to transfer file.
  3. Wait 6 seconds or plus
  4. On browser pc, the mobile device no longer detected
  5. Comfirme file choice on mobile

I found a fix! If you install the PairDrop app, you can share an image/file to the app, and then you pick which device you want to send the selected file/image to.

To install the app, go to PairDrop on Chrome (I don't know if it works on other browsers, probably not), click on the three dots in the top right, and click Add to home screen. Then you'll be able to share images to the app directly from your photo/files app.

Looks like a duplicate of https://github.com/schlagmichdoch/PairDrop/issues/247

Thanks a lot I use that with the f-droid version but with pairdrop by browser installation like your proposal, it dosen't work for me

I also have this issue. When I try to select multiple files to send the two devices lose connection. As the first report says, there is clearly a time issue whereby you take too long to select a file on android and it loses connection or drops. Seems like a bug, or unintended process.

Thanks @sobakintech , it works for me. I believe this is a design problem by android browser file selector process. So this is a workaround for pairdrop on android device!
