NFS 3 Hot Pursuit (1998) not running (Win98)
I cannot get NFS 3 to work under Windows 98 SE in Dosbox Pure, unfortunately. The original CD version isn't loading the game at all after launching the exe file. I've been testing 3D Setup settings
- 3Dfx voodoo - Quick black screen and crash to desktop with no error
- Software Renderer - throws error
Locate shape - 'back' Shape not found in '...FeData\art\title\title_G.qfs'
I also tried using the modern patch 1.6.1 with different types of renderers and different DirectX versions in Windows 98 SE (DirectX6 and 7):
1.DX5 - Crashes game on Startup (black loading screen)
2. DX6 - Error Direct3D2_create device failed
3. dgvoodoo and DX7 - Not able to init the trash driver (DirectX7 and Voodoo drivers have been installed correctly)
4. Softtri - Starts the game but immediately crashes to desktop - Exception caught: Exception_access_violation: read attempted @0x81A5E4B0
I guess this is an driver issue related to the emulated S3 Trio64 and Voodoo graphics card in Dosbox pure? I got all my other games to run in Windows 95 and Windows 98 under Dosbox Pure so it's an issue specific to this game. I couldn't find anything about this but maybe someone else tried to achieve run this game or knows if this is fixable? Any help or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I have almost same issue with NFS2 SE and windows 98SE:
-
3Dfx voodoo - game crash after several second of race. Return to desktop windows98Se who run again without error message.
-
Software Renderer - game don't start
Modern patch don't start again.

Disable Sound Blaster in core options, and you can play without crashes. It seems that 3dfx + Sound blaster do not work well in the core.
