On-screen keyboard usability (readability, larger cursor)
I've been using DOSBox-Pure a lot recently and find that i keep running in to these problems with the on-screen keyboard...
- So this is a very minor problem (bug?), but when i use the right analog stick on a controller to move the keyboard pointer, the pointer almost always gets stuck when moving directly up or down. The stick needs to be exactly in the up or down directions for this to happen though, and when it happens the pointer wont move up/down at all. But moving the stick in all other directions works fine. EDIT: This happens with the left stick too but maybe not as often, it's random, and it also happens when moving left and right, but again randomly and not as often.
This happens with:
- Two different controllers (Xbox One Elite and Xbox Series X/S controllers)
- Two Windows 10 PC's
- DBP 0.13
- Retro Arch 1.9.2
- Latest RA nightly (clean install)
- The on-screen keyboard is too small at high resolutions. At around 800x600 the keyboard gets smaller and smaller as resolution increases. Some games like Redneck Rampage go up to 1600x1200 and the keyboard is tiny at this res, and it's particularly hard to see when playing on a TV from a distance. It's also jarring with how it changes size from game to game. So would it possible to always have the same size regardless of the game res? Maybe percentage scale the keyboard to the game/window size?
Below are some of the different keyboard sizes at different resolutions....
- Can you consider making the keyboard pointer a different colour and slightly larger? The current white pointer doesn't stand out against the white keyboard characters. For example, if you quickly glance over the 3 images above it may take you a couple of seconds to find the pointer in each image. It's a small issue but this can happen a lot when using the keyboard often.
Below is an example of a pointer that can instantly be located...
