Why are you booting the Ubuntu 22.04 kernel on 24.04? If there's something that there's too many copies around, it's kernels in Ubuntu.
Also, you did not post any output of the state of your system (`dkms status`, log files, kernel packages installed, etc.) and on top of that the compiler in Ubuntu...

It should already, but the compiler is different for the old kernels and not installed, so as I already said, probably it won't work. You should not mix pre-packaged kernels...
What's the issue though with the current approach? The fact that the main folder of the modules is managed by a package manager does not mean you could have patches....
