Kavita will fall back on filename in the case of missing metadata, then fallback on foldername if the filename can't be parsed
So since Kavita saw the missing series metadata it fell back on the filename parsing to see if it could find a match and when it did it grouped them...
Yes setting distinct series names should split it. Including the authors name in the series title would probably be ideal
I will say this is similar to the issue I ran into with the mappings. Once a tag gets "normalized" there's no easy way to correct it
