Yes. We are working on a release that will provide full support for this. Hopefully out very soon.

This is supported in the API. So we just need to add it to shifterimg.

I've run into this as well. I'm still discussing with @dmjacobsen the ramifications of disabling it. But the newer kernels simply do not recognize this option.
