Lack of activity
Noticed a severe lack of activity on an otherwise incredibly interesting project that I was following religiously, please resume hack.
+1. Please resume hack. We should understand that one can get busy and/or distracted.
+1 Really enjoyed your video and work, hope to see more.
+1 pteek, we should absolutely be understanding of Scanlimes possible lack of time, prioritising other projects or family business. Just humbly poking her on this project I find very interesting. And if it were impossible for her to resume hacking I think we should actually try lending a helping hand.
Thanks for the encouragement! I have indeed had some higher-priority-life-stuff happening lately, but I'm looking forward to getting back into the hacking and documenting thereof :)
This project made me think about reversing tools in the IPython notebook (your use of Photoshop to view the firmware in the first video I saw was really cool!), so I started hacking up some ways to view binary files with the coming IPython widgets framework in bitjet.
I recently came across this document for an older model drive and thought you might find it useful as it not only includes the internal component diagram but also the commands that can be issued to the various chips. https://www.scribd.com/doc/257892001/SH-B123L-Product-Specifications
I had a quick look to see what one of these drives costs now. Unfortunately (but unsurprisingly) it seems that the product is discontinued, so it's not such a cheap piece of equipment any more :( If you can find one they seem to generally be over $200 USD. A little hard to justify. Although the prospect of starting over on a new drive is hardly inviting either!
I just found your amazing Youtube channel and would just like to say that I would also really like to see this being hacked and documented further, assuming you have time for it :)
Another interested party here. Would this work with AB and BB versions?
Has anybody started other projects around optical firmware?
Even just maintaining a standalone tool for dumping and flashing firmware seems incredibly helpful.
Does anyone know a similar project for the TS-L632H (SN-S082H) drive?
