Newline is inserted after deleting a newline in Samsung Internet

Using Android 7 with Samsung Internet 6.4.10.5 gives very annoying behaviour where a new newline character is inserted after holding down delete to delete code that includes a newline after a => symbol. This means that by holding down delete, you don't delete any code. It can be worked around by pressing delete once per character instead of holding it down
