Dirty repository error is a pain in the ass

I think I understand it's usefulness but the unfortunate consequence of this is a bunch of garbage commits when debugging release issues (like incorrect credentials or something).

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong and there is a better way.

I think the check is a useful one.

It might be useful to add a switch to temporarily skip this test (i.e. from the command-line) for use in situations like the one you describe.
