closing a window takes a couple of tries

When using the app, and if I want to close a window, it reappears again two or three times before it closes itself.

@IviyanStoyanov

That is very unexpected. Are you using other window/mouse tools intervening with AutoRaise perhaps? Maybe you can make a small video which demonstrates the problem? Also I would like to know which settings you are using for AutoRaise.

Hi! I have the same issue (on Tahoe 26.0 beta). Sometimes it will take multiple clicks for a window to close, and sometimes I can't close the window at all. It's hard to do a screen record because this behavior is unpredictable, but for example, my raised downloads folder window won't close anymore (and as you can see, it doesn't display any content). The only fix so far is to force quit finder.

Speculating on what could be happening, is that perhaps the app is in the middle of closing itself while being activated again by AutoRaise. However activating a window is something different from starting an App. On my one system, I have set apps to actually close in System Preferences when I click the X on the top left. Maybe this could make a difference?

Hello, I’m experiencing the same issue with Tahoe 26.0.1. The GIF shows Chrome, but the same problem occurs with Finder as well. Chrome allows me to close it even after it turns dark, but Finder does not.

From what I understand, the issue occurs when I click the close button and quickly move the cursor over the window that is about to close. If I keep the cursor still until the window fully closes, the issue does not occur.

I'm seeing the same thing, and it's particularly bad with Finder. The new window that appears can't be closed at all (actually, this seems like a Finder bug itself).

~~I found that bumping the window raise delay to 40 milliseconds fixes it, but I'd rather have this instant as usual.~~ EDIT: doesn't work, sorry.

These examples really help to narrow it down. Thanks for that. It could indeed be a problem with latest Apple MacOS and Finder. Which would explain I can't reproduce this myself. If it is indeed a bug with Finder, then I am not sure if this is going to be an easy fix. Lets leave this issue open for a while and see if Apple fixes things.

Experiencing this too.

I have same issue. Could not figure out at first but then found out it's AutoRise. It's not just Finder but Chrome, Outlook and other apps, so it's not an app specific

I have the same issue, windows do not close properly when they are raised during the closing animation. It is especially annoying on apps that open sub-windows (settings window in pycharm for example) that can be closed by clicking "ok", since the button is large enough that I do not have to stop moving the mouse completely, and it dramatically raises the probability of the bug occurring.

@sergeyph @tlauli @rashidlaasri @ognistik @serdarsen @amatakor @IviyanStoyanov For now I think the only option is to increase the focus delay so that when the mouse moves after the window has just been closed, it won't be focused immediately. As I am not on Tahoe myself, I can't test if this really improves the situation. So if someone can confirm this, then maybe we have some starting point for a cleaner/better fix.

@sbmpost Hi, thanks for your contribution. For your information, in my environment (macOS Tahoe 26.1), it didn’t work as expected even after I set the focus delay to 50 ms. A blank Finder window (like this) appears after I close it.

What seems to be working best is to disable window raise and leave window focus at 0 ms. This is unfortunate, as I find the window raise feature very useful. With window raise at 0 and window focus at 40 ms I'm still getting the issue.
