You need to have Java installed. I recommend you this version: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/corretto/latest/corretto-8-ug/downloads-list.html

Also you need to use the terminal CYGWIN.

Try this instead? cd nxt ; sh ./compile.sh ; sh ./run.sh

Are you using wsl or cygwin?

Maybe you should contact the NXT Support in the NXT Slack. Also, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Wg3uv07GU4 to be sure you didn't do anything wrong in the Step 1.
