Could not load any libpythonXXX.so (possibly release related)

I downloaded the .apk file and installed it on my Android device. When clicking the app icon I get a dialogue saying "Could not load any libpythonXXX.so", and can only click the Exit button at that point. It seems to be a problem with kivy according to an issue I found here on github. https://github.com/kivy/python-for-android/issues/2051

I too am using Android 9, on an LG G6.
