Misleading help text when searching for results in nested collections

Open posixeleni opened this issue 3 weeks ago • 0 comments

We had a library ask us why when they search at the top-level of a nested set of collections they only get results for what is directly held within that collection but the help text in the search box says that this will "Search subcollections and works in this collection". (see screenshot attached) I tested this out in hykustaging and came to the same conclusion.

I created a top level collection titled "Main Collection" and within that nested two more sub-collections. https://eleni.hykustaging.org/collections/865aad84-8003-4942-a47d-db0418aa3c38

On the third level sub-collection I uploaded a work with an image from the Hubble Telescope. https://eleni.hykustaging.org/collections/24a60bda-80f4-4a60-a8b9-2a77c7cee878?locale=en

If I then go back to the top-level collection (aka Main Collection) though and I try to search for the word "telescope" I get zero results https://eleni.hykustaging.org/collections/865aad84-8003-4942-a47d-db0418aa3c38?cq=telescope&sort=title_ssi+asc

But when I go to search the whole repository I can find telescope just fine: https://eleni.hykustaging.org/catalog?cq=telescope&sort=title_ssi+asc&search_field=all_fields&q=telescope Same if I go to the nested subcollection where the work resides: https://eleni.hykustaging.org/collections/24a60bda-80f4-4a60-a8b9-2a77c7cee878?cq=telescope&sort=title_ssi+asc&locale=en

Our Library is using 6.1 but I am seeing the same behavior in 6.2 hykustaging.

The text in the search box makes it sound like you can search all of the sub-collections within which is something users would expect to be able to do but find nothing if the works aren't directly under that current collection.
