WinCompose Shortcuts cause keyboard to get stuck in shortcut mode
Using Shortcuts to type WinCompose key sequences frequently cause the keyboard to act weirdly in Win 10. They behave like the ALT and/or CTRL buttons are stuck on, so that every time you try to type regular letters on your keyboard, it activates shortcuts instead. It took me forever to figure out that I needed to force-stop WinCompose and then restart it to fix the problem — it's not activating sticky keys, and using the on-screen keyboard didn't do anything to fix the issue.
It doesn't matter what application you're trying to type in, when this glitch happens (which seems to be utterly random after using almost any WinCompose shortcut sequence, even for just a single character.
If this is a known issue, is there any fix for it other than stopping and restarting WinCompose, since the utility can take some time to launch for some reason.
hey there, I've just had the same problem! I'm running the latest version (0.9.11) on Win11. I've used WinCompose with English (UK) Extended and English (UK) keyboard layouts. the issue I'm noticing is almost identical, but instead of acting as though the Ctrl and Alt keys are pressed, it only acts as if the Alt key is pressed, so certain key combos (like Win + X) don't work at all, while others (like Ctrl + A) produce expected output of Ctrl + Alt + letter (in this example the letter á). annoyingly, I can't reproduce it and (as far as I'm aware) it's unpredictable. @samhocevar is this a known issue and as @McBobb said is there any other fix apart from just restarting the program? thanks very much!
