Sounds like a issue with OpenIntelWireless, update your kexts, provide logs or any information providing more details. Otherwise I would file a bug report on their GitHub page.
I currently do not have macOS on my laptop nor a iDevice to test AirDrop, Follow the steps on this [GitHub issue](https://github.com/OpenIntelWireless/itlwm/issues/292) and see if anything helps.
