Hey @dvzrv - is this still an issue considering all the changes in the build system in v4?
I'm all for using the built-in rtmidi by default with an option for using the system version should package maintainers prefer to use that.

I think truncating it makes a lot of sense. Perhaps with a message of how many chars were truncated.
