Usage on i3/Regolith Ubuntu

Open iinuwa opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

Does anyone have success with running this on i3? I'm using Regolith Ubuntu 20.04. I built and installed from master, but when I switch to the UniEmoji input and type some characters, the characters don't appear, as if it's being sent to a different program, but nothing pops up on the screen. After a few seconds, the characters that I had typed appear. If I continue to type (still in the UniEmoji input), all the characters appear as if I were using the normal US English keyboard input.

I'm wondering if the pop-up is getting hidden or IBus isn't working properly or something. I don't know much about IBus, so maybe there's something wrong with my setup.

Sorry, I doubt anyone else reads these issues.

Does it work in other window managers besides i3?

I switched to GNOME, and it's not working there either. Do you have any tips on troubleshooting?

Not sure where to look for logs on this. I do find this in /var/log/syslog when it happens:

Nov 7 13:53:53 myhostname gnome-shell[2519]: JS ERROR: Gio.IOErrorEnum: Timeout was reached#012setEngine/<@resource:///org/gnome/shell/misc/ibusManager.js:240:32

I know I'm suuuuper late, but in case you still have the problem, how did you install it?

I still have the problem but can't remember how I installed. I have the repo cloned, so maybe I set it up from source?

I haven't used an Ubuntu-based distro in ages, but you may try this package at launchpad. I had my own problems trying to makes ibus work in the past, and using already-tested scripts for configuration helped me a lot.
