terminal gets stuck, possibly when there is a long-running process

I am hitting it repeatedly in a project where I try to copy a lot of data (many GB) from a dedicated disk to a compute server using rsync: there is a message

[Process completed - press any key]

in the terminal, but nothing I do leads to any changes in the terminal. It is possible to scroll the output, but the only way to "get unstuck" that I managed to figure out is to switch the terminal to a compute server and then back. Reopening the terminal file or refreshing the browser has no effect. I have seen anything like this before.

What happens if you select "Go --> Clear Frame" from the menu?

I don't recall exactly, but I have tried it as well as clicking "Default layout". Either nothing or maybe the screen got cleared, but there were still no reaction to keyboard.
