Scriptable shutdown or alert for compute servers

It may be useful if parameters of compute servers were monitored (CPU usage, GPU usage, disk usage, power consumptions?) and users could define rules for what should happen - send them an email (a text?) or shutdown the server.

May be greatly appreciated by sysadmins, but potentially very interesting for all technically inclined/serious users.
