The Portmaster Core Service is not running (but it is...)

Open FrostBlade5 opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

I downloaded the latest version of portmaster from https://safing.io/portmaster/ I have already tried to reinstall the program twice, no luck. All portmaster services are present in taskmanager but when i klick to open the program, it says portmaster core service is not running. So i opened services.msc and checked if it was running, infact it was. Why does the portmaster say that the core service is not running when it is? How can i fix this?

Hi @FrostBlade5, can you press F12 in the Portmaster UI (the one that complains about the service not running). That should open op the developer tools from electron. Please check if there is any error message in the "Console" tab. That might give us some hints on what's going on there.

Also, did you reboot your machine after installation?

Sorry for the late reply... the problem was caused by myself. What happened is, i use portmaster and simplewall. I granted portmaster network access and it worked perfectly. I did this in a virtual machine, which now i did not use for a while. When i booted the VM after quiet a while i forgot about portmaster and simplewall. Portmaster updated itself. After the update i had to manually grant the new version network access in simplewall. I did not think about that because i already granted portmaster network access in simplewall, well i had to do it again after the update. My bad.. i should have known.
