Wireguard VPN doesn't work

Open JS-E opened this issue 3 months ago • 5 comments

Pre-Submit Checklist:

What worked? Nothing

What did not work? Portmaster doesn't work and seems to block any connection going to the VPN, i have to disable portmaster entirely to get the VPN working

I wanted to ask if there is any plans to make the compatibility better with Wireguard. The link on the compatability directs to a Mullvad config, but nothing regarding Wireguard.

I'd love to see a fix for this as i am starting to use VPNs a lot more for my newest servers and i feel unprotected turning off portmaster

Hey @JS-E, thank you for reporting on a compatibility.

We keep a list of compatible software and user provided guides for improving compatibility in the wiki - please have a look there. If you can't find your software in the list, then a good starting point is our guide on How do I make software compatible with Portmaster.

If you have managed to establish compatibility with an application, please share your findings here. This will greatly help other users encountering the same issues.

Yes, I tried everything, and I'm unable to use my VPN with Portmaster. Even OpenVPN wont work.

There is a known compatibility issue with WireGuard on Linux. Portmaster v2.0.25 includes some improvements related to this specific issue: https://github.com/safing/portmaster/pull/1993

Could you please check if it works for you?

Note: This is only a compatibility improvement for pure WireGuard connections. You may still need to apply specific configurations to make it work with your VPN software (e.g., allowing Portmaster to use the OS DNS configuration, etc.).
