Edit Clip overwrites title by default

Open Chealer opened this issue 3 months ago • 1 comments

Ditto 3.25.76 can edit clips. It also allows titling clips.

However, if a clip is titled and then edited, its title is overwritten with an extract of the new content. In fact, this behavior is optional, but the option to overwrite is enabled by default, even when the title was customized. As ticket #562 demonstrates, there is considerable risk that users will miss that option, due to:

  1. its position
  2. its size
  3. its phrasing, which refers to the title as the "description".

I recommend to disable that option by default for clips with a custom title.

All the issues #562 #252 mentioning

There is a checkbox at the bottom of the clip editor you need to uncheck.

is unavailable on Ditto 3.45.2 on Windows 11 because editing a clip open the notepad instead of the built-in clip editor. The solution is to open the settings > general > advanced > update description on clip-edit > false
