The port/firewall is used for the Friends feature. This allows you to send clips to other computers running Ditto on your local network. Options - Friends.

The local clipboard pool does seem like an innovative feature. A clipboard manager that asks for network access is going to worry some users because some people use complex passwords and maybe a password manager to push those into sites through the clipboard. Or maybe they just work on sensitive documents, like attorney-client privileged information or contracts.

Whatever the case, it'd be reassuring for some folks to have a way to make sure nothing is leaking over the network. Whether that's a different version of the program with no network features, or a toggle in settings, or just waiting to ask for the firewall exception until the user sets up the friends feature, any of those would be helpful for more security minded folks. Not sure which of those might be easiest or if any of them are compatible with your roadmap, all just ideas.
