Features added in macOS 14 (Sonoma) to the VZ framework that may be of interest and could be made use of:

  • new storage devices:
    • raw (hardware) disk support
    • NBD - network block device protocol
  • save/restore VM state

New features in macOS 15 (Sequoia):

(Presumably this allows hot-pluggable USB mass storage devices instead of allocating them at initialization. However, it is unclear how this would work in our use-case)
