@jeffsays can you tl;dr why this upgrade is needed? Security issue? I glanced at the commits and don't see a security patch...

yes - there is an open security vulnerability for all versions of tar <6.2.1

and now that I re-read the version this PR wants to bump from/to, v4.4.18 is still vulnerable

Bummer. Looks like you need to upgrade to node-tar v7.

I don't have time to see if any of the changes break my module.

If someone has time to fix & test & submit a PR I'd be happy to merge and publish a new version.
