Creating of 51+ FPS mp4 not possible

Open Andre601 opened this issue 7 years ago • 9 comments

For some reason is it not possible, to create mp4 with more than 50 FPS.

The bar is just not animated. 50 FPS or lower works still, but isn't really usefull, when you want to make 60 FPS-mp4, to use it in a 60 FPS video itself.

Also framerates like 29.95 aren't possible too. Sonic Candle will just not work (Buttons won't react at all)

can also confirm this

Are you doing this with the binaries or are you compiling the code directly?

If you're compiling the code directly, I'm interested in learning how you got it to work at all (encoding library is deprecated, thus no updates for now).

If if it's the binary (JAR file), please inform what codecs you guys are using for your wave/mp3 files. 60fps rendering has been working for some time. I'll look into this issue as we go along. I fear the issue may lie within the encoding library (which, as previously mentioned, is deprecated) and thus would require a re-write to fully solve.

Ryan and I have been talking about a re-write, however, it's not high on our list of things to do as he and I both have our lives to attend to (we originally wrote this software while in much more opportune situations).

If you'd prefer to have this conversation behind closed doors, you can find me on discord or email me via the contact pane on my website: http://dakkra.com/ (bottom of the front page).

Hope we can resolve this, Dakkra

The above is an example of 60FPS rendering working since 2015

EDIT 2: I'm also aware that rational frame rates are not possible. That was an intentional design choice back in 2015 as we considered integer frame rates to be the only necessary rate at the time. If push comes to shove, use a free editor such as Blender, kdenlive, etc... to sample the from a higher frame rate (e.g 30) down to 29.95. I know this isn't an elegant solution, but it's what I can offer while the status of SC is in the air (and has been for quite some time now).

To be honest: I have absolutely no idea, how to check that....

You can use https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html to check the codec information (in fact if you could screenshot it that would be fantastic). While playing the audio file in VLC, hit Ctrl+J (or open the Tools menu -> Codec Information).

Without trying to sound rude, but I won't really install VLC-player just for that... sorry.

Not a problem. Just means I have no way to really investigate this. Let me know if you've anymore information for me.

Hmm this makes it seem as though the mp3->wave converter is the culprit here. Thanks for this; I'll start investigating the current theory.

I have now been able to repeat the bug on my dev system. It indeed looks like it has to deal with our conversion from mp3 to wav. If you've a 3rd party audio converter, I suggest using that in the mean time. I'll see what I can do to fix this issue, though I fear it may involve an entire re-write of the software.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
