Snap Panel with modifier key

Open bfinlay opened this issue 2 years ago • 4 comments

I use the "snap panel" for window resizing. I often false-trigger the snap panel.

I have tried the "restore window size when unsnapped" which helps address the false-trigger of the snap panel, but then it false-triggers restoring window size when I don't want to. For example, I have snapped a window to a top left position, and now I want to drag it to another monitor, as soon as I drag it out of position it goes back to the size that it was. My partial workaround is to drag to a new monitor and repeat the snap. I have the "restore window size when unsnapped" disabled because I have more problems with it on then with it off.

What I would like is to be able to hold down a modifier key, like "option", while moving the window in order to enable the snap panel so that I can drag windows without false-triggering the snap. (ie if "option" key is not held, moving the window does not make the snap panel appear.)

Thanks for the feedback. I do actually have this one on my backlog but haven't made it back to this part of the code in a while. Hopefully soon!

Here to +1 this.

I sometimes accidentally hit the snap panel when I don't want to. Sometimes I am moving my window just a nudge, but the panel is in the way (don't enjoy it at the bottom or on the corners because I have a big monitor). A modifier key would make what I want very intentional!

Note, I would probably use CMD.

I'd also +1! Or even an option to only show the snap panel on specific monitors, would be nice when dealing with mixed monitor set ups!

(Thanks! I've noted the +1s here and additional thoughts)
