Allow percentages when defining a `Custom Size & Position`

Open igorwojda opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

Currently, we can define a custom position/size for windows, however, this requires a lot of manual calculations. To keep things more complicated these calculations are specific to a given display size. image

Nowadays have a laptop and external display or use a few external displays with different resolutions. This means that the above calculations are far from ideal.

The solution would be the introduction of Unit combo box: image

This would allow us to define a certain layout that is derived from the size of the connected display: image

The above layout could work on all sizes of ultrawide displays, not only a specific resolution.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I realize this is unintuitive and you can only really figure this out if you click on the info button, but you can use values <= 1 for display relative sizes. The values can be either decimal or fraction.

I still think that fixed percentages would be better.

So I understand, are you asking for a dropdown with commonly used percentages?

As it currently works, you could either input 0.5 or 1/2 for 50%, in case that wasn't clear.

Ah, I just reread through what you had in this issue and realized that maybe having a dropdown that lets you switch and translate between the two would be much better user experience. Thanks!

It is common UX pattern is many design tools to switch units like this
