How do I hookshot a window to a different screen?
- [x] This is a new bug that hasn't been documented in a closed issue or in the Readme.
macOS version: Monterey Rectangle version: Hookshot 2.0 (Rectangle Pro)
First of all, really love the app!
I did not know where to open the issue for Hookshot, couldn't find a support page. The issue is that I am not able to long-throw a window to another monitor, is there a way to do that? I see all the options in the long throw menu but none of it is for a different screen altogether. Is this supported?
Thanks!
I realise this is more of a feature request than a bug where hookshot can identify where the next display is based on the direction of the cursor and the position of the monitor/display set in system preferences. And then when there's a long throw, it shows the shadow of the app on the display you intend to send the window.
rxhanson/RectanglePro-Community would be the place for Rectangle Pro (it's only 2 days old, and not linked to from anywhere yet).
Thanks @Aaron-Rumpler for pointing in the right direction. Still getting all the pieces in place :)
@xeoneux This is something that's come up a few times with other users, and I think it does make sense to have some built-in behavior for when the cursor is moved to another display. Since the window throw is relative to the initial cursor position, rather than the absolute position of a cursor on a display, I have been a little bit torn on what I want the resulting behavior to be. It could be a projection of what's configured in the window throw, with the "new" initial cursor position being the center of the new display, or it could be a configured set of zones (similar to fancy zones in Windows Power Toys). The latter would require either some really involved UI work or just some canned defaults. If you have an opinion, let me know since I'm still trying to work it out.
There is some existing (though not ideal) functionality that you can leverage. Next and Previous display are available options that you have probably explored but don't quite fit what you want. The other alternative is creating custom shortcuts and specifying the display that you want, then going back and configuring this in the window throw or long throw (they will be at the bottom of that long list).
