Stage manager recent apps area setting not respected when opening new window

  • [ ] This is a new bug that hasn't been documented in a closed issue or in the Readme.

macOS version: Ventura 13.4 Rectangle version: 0.70 (76)

This issue is possibly related to #1114, but this is a consistently reproducible subproblem:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In macOS, turn on Stage Manager
  2. In Rectangle, set "Stage manager recent apps area" to 0px
  3. In any program (ex. Safari/Brave), open a new window (Command+N). The new window will open with an empty area on the left, regardless of the recent apps area setting.

If you then Maximize the window with Rectangle, or do other resizing commands, the recent apps area setting will be respected. However, on the first time that the new window is opened, the setting is not respected.

I'm not sure if Rectangle is activated at all when a new window is opened, but if it is not, there's a possibility that this requires functionality to ensure new windows that are meant to open in maximized size are actually opened in the size specified by the "stage manager recent apps area" setting in Rectangle.

Thanks for reporting. Unfortunately, this issue is on the macOS side. Rectangle doesn't do any management of windows unless you perform a keyboard shortcut or drag the window to a snap area.
