[1.12-1.9.9] Deep Dark portal/TPA sends me to a false merged dimension

According to the player featured in one image below, I spawned in next to him. So I am in fact in the deep dark. An earlier attempt, I was attacked by mobs. I can see endermen OK and they respond to my looking at them. Journeymap thinks I'm in the overworld. The world around me makes me think of the deep dark, but its not accurate and does weird things. I cannot interact with blocks. I do get stuck in invisible blocks, this includes the floor.

if its a desync, i can't log back in to finish the test. i think the server doesnt know where i am
